Teniya Morant, Ja Morant’s Sister, Commits to Mississippi Valley State WBB

Teniya Morant, the sister of Grizzlies star Ja Morant, announced that she has committed to Mississippi Valley State.

Morant made the announcement Wednesday on Instagram with the caption “lets go devilettes.” Her decision to attend MVSU comes after the Delta Devils initially offered her a scholarship in January, her first offer to play Division I basketball.

She also chose MVSU after receiving interest from Grambling State. The 5’ 3” guard recently graduated from Houston High School, where she averaged 11.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Justin Lewis, Houston girls basketball coach, told The Commercial Appeal that the MVSU is getting a good player in Morant.

“They’re getting a tenacious player that gives it her all on the floor,” Lewis said, per The Appeal. “Somebody that’s going to be vocal. She’s going to work hard.”

Like Teniya, Ja Morant was overlooked in his recruitment as he landed at Murray State before building his case as a college basketball star and becoming the No. 2 pick in the 2019 NBA draft.

The news comes as the elder Morant sibling is currently suspended from all Memphis team activities pending the league’s investigation into an Instagram video that appeared to show the 23-year-old displaying a gun on Saturday.

The situation comes after Morant was suspended for eight games in March for displaying a gun at a nightclub in Colorado. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski believes that Morant could face a “lengthy suspension” from the league this time around.
