West Virginia’s Kerr Kriisa Re-Entering Transfer Portal After Huggins Resignation
Following Bob Huggins’ resignation, West Virginia guard Kerr Kriisa has decided to enter the transfer portal, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reports.
Kriisa spent three seasons at Arizona, averaging at least 9.7 points and 4.7 assists per game in 68 games over the last two seasons. He helped the Wildcats return to relevance with the program earning a No. 1 seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament and a No. 2 seed last season.
Following the 2022–23 campaign, Kriisa chose to transfer from Arizona and committed to West Virginia in April to play for Huggins. Since then, Huggins had two off-the-court incidents, first using anti-LGBTQ slurs on a radio show then getting arrested for a DUI last weekend. He resigned as head coach not long after the arrest, and Mountaineer players were given a 30-day window to transfer without any repercussions.
After Huggins resigned, Kriisa lamented not being able to play for the former head coach.
“It’s been a crazy and busy week,” Kriisa said, via Givony. “I’m deeply sorry about the situation, as I was really looking forward to playing for Coach Huggins. Huggs will always be my guy. I’ve only known him for a few months now, but he is the most genuine man I have ever met. He is the man.”
Kriisa instantly becomes a coveted transfer target, as Memphis, Cincinnati and Nebraska are reportedly potential destinations. Besides Kriisa, West Virginia forward Tre Mitchell and guard Joe Toussaint also reportedly entered the portal on Friday, instead of waiting to see who the Mountaineers hire as the team’s new head coach.
