Iowa State Starting QB Accused of Betting on Cyclones Football Game, per Report
In the wake of a widespread probe into gambling within multiple Iowa State athletics programs, Cyclones quarterback Hunter Dekkers has reportedly been accused of placing 26 wagers on Iowa State sporting events—including one 2021 football game while he was on the team.
Dekkers has been charged with tampering with records related to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s probe into sports gambling, according to Travis Hines and Randy Peterson of the Des Moines Register. The complaint says that a DraftKings account controlled by Dekkers made approximately 366 wagers that totaled over $2,799.
The football game in question that Dekkers allegedly bet on occurred on Oct. 23, 2021, against Oklahoma State. Dekkers was a sophomore that season and did not play in the game, which the Cyclones won, 24–21.
Dekkers started all 12 games for Iowa State last season, with the team finishing 4–8. He completed 66.1% of his passes for 3,044 yards, 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He is facing a permanent loss of NCAA eligibility if it’s found that he bet on his own games or on other sports at his own school.
