Cooper Flagg, Potential Future No. 1 NBA Pick, Reclassifies to Class of 2024

The college basketball world will welcome Cooper Flagg, one of the premier high school prospects in the world, into the fold earlier than expected following the 16-year-old phenom’s decision to reclassify.

Originally one of the top recruits in the class of 2025, Flagg announced on Instagram Friday he has decided to reclassify to the class of 2024. The seismic move now positions Flagg, who’s been touted as a future first-round pick, as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA draft. 

Listed at 6-foot-8 and 195 pounds, Flagg will now head into the fall facing added attention from scouts around the country as the highly-touted forward enters his senior season at the famed Montverde Academy in Florida.

While Flagg’s future college home remains unknown, his upcoming commitment figures to remain a notable storyline in the months ahead. Earlier this month, Flagg took his first unofficial visit in a trip to Duke, the reported favorite to land him, though Kansas, Kentucky and reigning national champion UConn are also expected to be among the many teams involved in his recruitment, per ESPN. 

A rising prospect from Maine, Flagg has emerged this summer as a formidable force in the high school ranks after a dominant run on the summer circuit. 

In late June, Flagg nabbed MVP honors at the prestigious NBPA Top 100 Camp in Orlando, Florida, and went on to average an absurd 25.4 points, 13 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 6.9 blocks at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam playing for Maine United’s 16U level. The high school phenom also previously became the youngest player to win the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year in 2022 after he helped lead the American team to the gold medal in the under-17 World Cup.
