Latest College Football Playoff Rankings: Georgia Maintains Top Spot

The latest College Football Playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night and Georgia remains in the top spot heading into the final week of the season.

No. 1 Georgia dispatched No. 21 Tennessee 38-10 last week, recording its 28th consecutive win and becoming the first team in SEC history to go 8-0 in conference play in three straight seasons since the league started divisions and an eight-game slate in 1992.

Ohio State maintained its spot at No. 2 after defeating Minnesota 37-3, setting up the Buckeyes for their Big Ten East showdown with No. 3 Michigan on Saturday at “The Big House.” The Wolverines won a close game on the road against Maryland to remain undefeated, giving Michigan a chance to earn an appearance in its third consecutive Big Ten title game if Jim Harbaugh’s squad defeats Ohio State. 

Washington moved up to No. 4 after a win in a tightly contested Pac-12 battle against Oregon State. Despite Florida State’s blowout win against North Alabama, the Seminoles dropped one spot to No. 5 and FSU coach Mike Norvell will have the task of ensuring his team maintains its place in the CFP conversation after quarterback Jordan Travis’s season-ending injury.

If the CFP semifinal games started today, No. 1 Georgia would face No. 4 Washington in one game while No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan would square in the other playoff matchup.

This year’s semifinal contests will take place at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans and the Orange Bowl in Miami on Jan. 1.

The College Football Playoff rankings will be released every Tuesday until Sunday, Dec. 3, when the final four teams will be officially announced.
