Mississippi State QB Will Rogers Expected to Enter Transfer Portal, per Report
Mississippi State lost the Egg Bowl to Ole Miss Thursday night, 17–7, and it appears that the Bulldogs also will be losing their starting quarterback.
Will Rogers is expected to enter the transfer portal, Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports reported Friday morning. The senior graduated in May and will be able to move on as a graduate transfer.
During his four seasons in Starkville, Rogers has been one of the most productive passers in SEC history. He’s thrown for 12,315 yards, ranking second all-time in the conference. His 94 career touchdown passes place him fourth in SEC history, ahead of stars such as Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Tua Tagovailoa and Bryce Young.
Asked after Thursday’s game if it was his final game with the Bulldogs, Rogers sounded like a player looking in the rear-view mirror.
“Just blessed over the last four years. It hasn’t always been easy, hasn’t always been fun,” said Rogers. “Kinda hectic over the past 12 months.”
Later Friday, Rogers posted a message of gratitude for his time as Mississippi State.
This season, Rogers passed for 1,626 yards with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions despite missing four games due to an upper-body injury. Rogers put up his best numbers during his sophomore year, completing 73.9% of his passes for 4,739 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions under coach Mike Leach in 2021.
The NCAA transfer portal officially opens Dec. 4, but Rogers and all Mississippi State players are allowed to enter earlier because coach Zach Arnett was fired on Nov. 13. Arnett took over for Leach, who died last December.
