Notre Dame Expected to Target Duke QB Riley Leonard in Transfer Portal, per Report

Duke quarterback Riley Leonard decided to enter the transfer portal on Wednesday, according to On3.com, and one notable team may already be interested. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports Notre Dame is expected to be interested in adding Leonard this offseason.

Leonard spent the past three seasons at Duke, taking over the starting job in 2022. Last year, the quarterback totaled 2,967 yards with 20 passing touchdowns and six interceptions while leading Duke to a 9-4 record.

However, Leonard battled injuries this year, as he played in only seven games for the Blue Devils, producing just 1,102 passing yards with three touchdowns through the air and three interceptions. With former Duke head coach Mike Elko officially leaving for Texas A&M, Leonard will now explore his options in the portal.

Duke quarterback Riley Leonard is expected to enter the transfer portal, with Notre Dame being a reported destination.

Notre Dame went 9-3 this year but will need a new quarterback, as Sam Hartman is set to graduate after just one season with the team. Whoever takes over will be the fifth primary starting quarterback for the Fighting Irish in the past five seasons.

While Notre Dame and Duke played each other this season, the two teams are not scheduled to face off next year.
