Washington QB Austin Mack Transfers to Alabama, Reuniting With Coach Kalen DeBoer

Alabama’s new head coach Kalen DeBoer has been joined by some of his former Washington coaching staff since making the move to Tuscaloosa, and now one of his quarterbacks, Austin Mack, will be transferring to the Crimson Tide as well.

Mack will be entering his second season when he officially joins Alabama’s program, and he will have four years of eligibility remaining. He redshirted under Huskies starter Michael Penix Jr. last season, so he hasn’t seen any collegiate football action yet.

Alabama is still slated to have quarterback Jalen Milroe on the roster during the 2024 season, so it’s unlikely that Mack will earn the starting role.

Quite a few Washington players jumped into the transfer portal after DeBoer left the program. Quarterback Will Rogers, who only announced his transfer to the Huskies in December, rejoined the transfer portal after the coaching news. Other Huskies quarterbacks Dylan Morris and Will Haskell also joined the transfer portal.

On the flip side, Alabama has had many players enter the transfer portal after Nick Saban retired from the program. As of Jan. 18, 28 former Alabama players entered the portal.
