Deion Sanders Defends His Sons Missing Colorado Team Meeting for Fashion Show

Colorado football is certainly a family affair, with coach Deion Sanders leading a roster that features two of his sons: quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defensive back Shilo Sanders.

Just because those two are the coach’s sons, however, doesn’t mean they have special privileges, Deion said in a recent video published by Well Off Media, his son Deion Sanders Jr.’s media company.

The Sanders brothers recently made an offseason trip to Paris to walk in the 2024 Louis Vuitton’s men’s Fall-Winter show, presented by musician Pharrell Williams. For Shedeur and Shilo, who clearly have a deep interest in fashion, it was an incredible opportunity.

Deion Sanders made clear that he was fine with his sons Shedeur and Shilo Sanders missing a team practice to walk the runway in Paris.

The two Buffaloes missed a team meeting to do so, however—news that did not go over well in some corners of the local media. In response, Deion says that he is open to any member of his team—not only his sons—taking some time away from football to pursue other important aspirations.

“Any young man on our team that has a dream, a goal or aspiration, I allow them to go and fulfill it. Not just my sons,” he said. “I wanted you to go have a good time for Fashion Week.”

In one example, Sanders said he told a member of his staff to leave work to go celebrate his daughter’s birthday.

“One the coaches the other day said, ‘My daughter has a birthday party,’ I said, ‘Get out of here. What are you still doing here? Get on a plane and go. Go.’ We’re not like that, I’m not built like that. I’d rather you capture these moments instead of this thing.”

Deion downplayed the team meeting, saying that most of what was discussed rehashed things that the team had already gone over. He also emphasized that his sons were back in time for the first team workout.

The elder Sanders might not have been overly impressed with the threads that Williams and Louis Vuitton laid out for his star quarterback son, but he clearly has no problem with them making the trip abroad.
