Providence Basketball Fans Creatively Trolled Ed Cooley in Return with Georgetown

Ed Cooley returned to Providence on Saturday for the first time since becoming Georgetown’s head basketball coach, and Friars fans came prepared for his arrival. Providence has not forgotten that Cooley left the school for a conference rival following over a decade at the school, and it showed with their trolling.

When Cooley made his first entrance out of Georgetown’s locker room, the veteran coach was booed heavily on his former home court.

However, the jeering did not stop there. Providence fans created some extremely creative signs to bring to the game, including one that showed an email from the dean and another that presented the listing of Cooley’s former home.

The decision to leave Providence for Georgetown did not go over well in the Friars community, as Cooley left the school while second on the program’s all-time wins list. Providence athletic director Steve Napolillo even called out Georgetown AD Lee Reed for poaching a coach from a Big East in-conference rival.

Cooley, 54, grew up in Providence and had made it known throughout the years how happy he was to be coaching the Friars. That made his departure even tougher for fans to take, which meant they were out for revenge on Saturday afternoon.
