The Middle Tennessee Blue Raider football team didn't have a game on Super Bowl Sunday. However, it was still a successful day for the program, as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22.

MTSU had four players representing the program on team rosters Sunday: Richie James, Charvarius Ward, Darius Harris, and Izaiah Gathings. James, Harris, and Gathings all play for Kansas City. Ward was a member of the 49ers.

Only Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida and Clemson had more alumni on either Super Bowl roster.

Harris was inactive for the Super Bowl, however, he becomes the first MTSU alum with three Super Bowl rings. All of the linebacker's rings have come as a member of the Chiefs.

It's the first Super Bowl win for either James or Gathings. Gathings, a tight end, was also inactive on Sunday. James was targeted just once in the passing game, but returned four punts for a total of 12 yards. He fumbled one, but managed to recover it.

In total, 11 different MTSU players have now been a member of a Super Bowl championship team. Those 11 players account for 14 rings.
