Sports Illustrated's Tech Bit column takes a quick look at new technology and gear—and the stories that go with them—in the world of outdoor adventure and sports.

Product: Uncaged Demon 40 cleats

Brand: Adidas

Description: As NFL scouts turn their attention to the individual performances at the annual combine in Indianapolis, players search for every possible edge. Adidas has unveiled its new Uncaged Demon 40 cleats, designed specifically for the 40-yard dash. Weighing 4.9 ounces, the cleat uses an ultra-lightweight “Sprintskin” fiber for the upper. The lightest cleat in the game has reinforcement only in key zones on the upper for support. The stud placement on the plate was engineered for acceleration needed in a 40-yard dash.
