ESPN's popular soccer commentating duo, 'Men In Blazers', will receive their own show on NBC Sports this upcoming season, according to a report Sunday by the Wall Street Journal.
The duo, formed by Michael Davies and Roger Bennett, will contribute a mixture of written, audio and broadcast pieces across both NBC and NBC Sports Network. They have long hosted a podcast popular among soccer fans.
While it televises Major League Soccer matches, NBC's soccer coverage is anchored in its broadcasting of Barclay's Premier League games. During the 2013-14 season the network will once again make all 380 league matches available to viewers. NBC appears to be fortifying that relationship even more with the addition of the 'Men'. More, from the Journal:
"All of our focus, all of our commitment, all of our attention is focused solely on our relationship with the Premier League," said Jon Miller, the president of programming for NBC and NBCSN. The Men in Blazers "are not going to stop talking about Major League Soccer, but the focus of their relationship with us will be the Premier League."
The duo markets themselves as being "driven by the belief that Soccer is America's Sport Of The Future." The 2014 World Cup, which the duo commentated on frequently for the ESPN family of networks, was likely the most watched World Cup in American history.
