Valencia decides not to use new logo after complaint from DC Comics

La Liga club Valencia has decided to drop its proposed new logo after DC Comics said it looked too much like Batman's.

News that DC filed a complaint with the European Union's trademark body emerged last week, but the club issued a statement on Tuesday to clear things up. They filed a trademark application with the poetically named Office of Harmonisation of the Internal Market. DC then filed an objection to Valencia's application, but not a lawsuit, as some outlets had reported.

Valencia also points out that the club has used a bat in its official crest since 1922, not to mention the fact that the coat of arms for the city of Valencia has incorporated a bat for much longer. Batman didn't emerge from the shadows of Gotham until 1939.
