NFL fans let out a collective groan Sunday when a Panthers fan arrived at Bank of America Stadium dressed like a car-crash victim. The outfit was a reference to Cam Newton, who had been injured days earlier in a crash that (judging from the photos) could've been significantly worse. The fan, Mark Middlesworth, gave his side of the story and claims the getup was actually in support of backup QB Derek Anderson. The sign he wore (which nobody could read) was a spoof on the Allstate ads and read, "When Mayhem strikes, better get Anderson." Middlesworth also added, "In hindsight it could have been a little less tasteless."

There are many stories of athletes doing interesting things after leaving the NFL and my current favorite is Victor Adeyanju.The former Rams defensive end was forced out of the league due to knee injuries, so he got his computer geek on and scored a job at the Apple Help Desk. He is now working an IT job with the Best Western corporate office.

Tim Tebow vs. Ryan Lindley

After some false rumors spread yesterday that Tim Tebow would sign with the injury-depleted Cardinals, Kissing Suzy Kolber came up with a chart comparing Tebow and the Cardinals current starter, Ryan Lindley. My favorite part is this description of Tebow ("sixth-round talent taken in first round") compared with Lindley ("sixth-round talent taken in sixth round").

LOL Jets

The never-ending parade of awfulness better known as the Jets 2014 season took another great turn yesterday when owner Woody Johnson was caught favoring a tweet from a fan calling for GM John Idzik to be fired. Johnson then tweeted that he has "to be more careful when scrolling through my Twitter feed. The tweet I most recently favorited was inadvertent." If you believe that, I have swampland in Florida to sell you (here's an explanation of that phrase. I looked it up because I wasn't sure I was using it correctly). In other Jets news, the team cut the cornerback whose playbook was stolen.
