During a postgame interview, Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson expressed with a smile his satisfaction that the ACC defeated an SEC team in a New Years Six bowl game.

"And for at least a week or two we don't have to hear about the SEC," Johnson told ESPN's Maria Taylor.

Georgia Tech might end up being the lone ACC team that can boast of a victory over an SEC team in the postseason. In ACC-SEC matchups so far, Georgia beat Louisville in the Belk Bowl, and South Carolina beat Miami (FL) in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl. Alabama could face Florida State in the national championship if both teams win their national semifinal games on Thursday.

SEC teams are 4-3 so far in bowl games, and conference teams have five more to play.

The ACC is 3-6 so far in bowl games, with two remaining.
