WWE announces Elimination Chamber return as network exclusive

The Elimination Chamber is returning to the WWE Universe.

The Elimination Chamber is returning to the WWE Universe.

WWE announced the return on Monday's "RAW," revealing that the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event will air exclusively on the WWE Network on May 31. It will be the second pay-per-view event of the month, following Sunday's WWE Payback.

The new Elimination Chamber will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas, where the WWE Tag Team Championships and Intercontinental Championship will be defended. U.S. champion John Cena will compete and the WWE World Heavyweight Title will also be defended.

The Elimination Chamber was introduced by Eric Bischoff in 2002 and features a chain-linked steel structure enclosing a circular ring. The single-elimination match features six competitors beginning from "pods" inside the cage. Two wrestlers begin the match inside the ring while the remaining four are released into it at consistent intervals.

In February 2014, Randy Orton defeated Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Sheamus, Cesaro and Christian to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in Minneapolis.
