Matthew Dellavedova’s hometown is naming an arena after him
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova is the breakout star of the NBA Finals. Now, his hometown in Australia is naming an arena after him.
Dellavedova hails from Maryborough, Victoria, Australia, and their newspaper has already given him front-page treatment. Now, according to 3AW Melbourne, an arena in Mayborough will soon be named after the Cavaliers star who has stifled the Golden State Warriors and their NBA MVP point guard, Stephen Curry.
Great timing: after playing just nine minutes in the Cavaliers’ Game 1 loss, Dellavedova played 42 and 39 in the next two games, respectively. In Tuesday’s Game 3, he scored 20 points and added five rebounds and four assists, helping the Cavs take a 2–1 series lead.

He was also hospitalized after the game due to severe cramping and dehydration, but will play in Thursday’s Game 4.

While the Cavaliers have far from sealed the seven-game series - they lead 2-1 - Central Goldfield Shire CEO Mark Johnson told 3AW Breakfast Dellavedova had done enough to have his home-town stadium named after him.
"That's where Matt Dellavedova learned his craft and the Maryborough Basketball Association have suggested that the stadium, which is a two-court stadium, ought to be renamed after Matthew," Mr Johnson told 3AW Breakfast.
"He's certainly put Maryborough on the world map, it's just fantastic.
"Obviously there's a process to go through."
The site also reporters that local kids are skipping school to watch Dellavedova’s games, which is awesome (except for the whole skipping school thing).
