Maryland football coach Randy Edsall tweeted an inspirational quote from Duke men’s basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski and Terps fans were not happy to say the least.

As a college coach with a Twitter account, Randy Edsall is essentially bound to tweeting garden-variety motivational quotes. But when the Maryland football coach brought Duke and Mike Krzyzewski into the picture, things got a little murky.

You see, Maryland fans don’t really like Duke, their former ACC conference mates. Shocking, I know. Coach K is also probably neck-and-neck with Kentucky’s John Calipari on any ranking of the most polarizing personalities in college sports.

So when Edsall tweeted Sunday night, “‘If you have talent with teamwork, you’ve got a chance to be a championship team.’-Mike Krzyzewski,” his mentions piled up quickly.

This guy knew.

Still not quite sure what the “Rangoon” part is about.

These guys were at least polite!

Presumably there were more—as The Washington Post points out, at least one tweeter claims he was blocked by Edsall “for pointing out that a Terp coach posting inspirational Coach K quotes is crazy.”

All things considered, this reaction probably could’ve been worse. Props to Terp fans for keeping things mostly clean, and, man, let’s hope the college football season gets here soon.
