Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show desk behind on Thursday and is leaving behind a long legacy of sports jokes, interviews and fandom.

In his penultimate episode he took a moment to note the wonderful timing of a surge from his favorite team, the Mets, that has put them in first place in the NL East, just as he steps down from his desk.

The moment comes at the end of a Hamlet-style soliloquy on the impending end of his 16-year run as the anchor of the Comedy Central news show and the Mets struggles during that era.
