Beefy quarterback Jared Lorenzen offers his services to the Jets

With Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith both nursing injuries, could the Jets turn to beefy quarterback Jared Lorenzen?

He’s known by many names—the Pillsbury Throwboy, the Hefty Lefty, He Ate Me, the Round Mound of Touchdown, the Abominable Throwman—but could Jared Lorenzen be known as New York Jets quarterback?

The Jets have issues at quarterback after Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith were injured in Sunday’s loss to the Raiders, so Lorenzen has a suggestion.

Lorenzen, who’s pretty fond of the nicknames his physique inspired, was last seen in Feb. 2014 quarterbacking a semi-pro arena football team called the Northern Kentucky River Monsters, listed (perhaps generously) at 320 pounds.

Since then, even though he’s retired, he’s tried to angle his way on to the rosters of the Arizona Cardinals, and even the Jets. After Smith had his jaw broken over the summer, Lorenzen pointed out that he “look[s] great in green.”

Pro Football Talk is already reporting that the Jets are exploring free-agent quarterback options, so we can only hope that Lorenzen gets a call.
