This outfield lazy river puts the D-Backs’ pool to shame

The Frisco RoughRiders unveiled plans Thursday for a lazy river behind the rightfield fence.

Our ears perked up when we heard last month that the Frisco RoughRiders had plans for a lazy river behind the rightfield fence, and now the dream is becoming a reality.

The RoughRiders, the Double A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, are in the process of building the river (you can watch the progress on their website) and expect it’ll be finished by June.

The Diamondbacks’ pool at Chase Field in Arizona may be the original outfield water fixture, but Frisco is much more impressive. One lap around the 3,000-square-foot circuit is 400 feet. It will contain 68,023 gallons of water while the D-Backs’ pool is “a mere 8,500 gallons,” the RoughRiders said.

The lazy river is part of a larger 12,000-square-foot party area, which can be reserved by large groups. Individual tickets are also for sale for “Thursday Night Pool Party” events, which the team is marketing toward “singles and millennials.”
