Petition calls for Bengals to change name to ‘Cincinnati Harambes’

A petition is calling for the Bengals to re-name their team the ‘Harambes.’

Harambe served Cincinnati for 15 long years, so the least the city could do is name their football team after him.

The gorilla, who was tragically shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden in May, is still being remembered on the internet every day. In an effort to remember Harambe, Julian Ortiz from Gilbertsville, Penn. is petitioning the city of Cincinnati and the Bengals to re-name the franchise the ‘Harambes.’

“The Cleveland Browns named their team after a former coach who made a great impact on their city so why cant the Bengals do it as well in honor of a hero who made an impact on their city too,” he wrote.

If you’d like to see the petition, you can click here, but there’s some NSFW language in there.

The petition had 4,492 signatures at last check, 508 short of its goal of 5,000.

Rest in peace, Harambe.
