Urban Meyer Says Stetson Bennett Is ‘Most Underrated’ CFB Player Ever
Urban Meyer has been around a lot of talent in his time as a college football coach, so he has seen all kinds of players flourish. And while many of the talents he coached got their flowers, Meyer can spot those who didn’t.
On the All Things Covered Podcast with Bryant McFadden and Patrick Peterson, Meyer said he thinks that Georgia’s back-to-back national championship quarterback deserves more respect.
“Stetson Bennett is the most underrated player, I think, that has ever played the game,” Meyer said.
Meyer added that when he saw Bennett for the first time, he couldn’t believe he was the quarterback due to his size. However, Bennett makes up for it with all the intangibles that a quarterback needs.
“I can’t believe how small that guy was,” Meyer said. “But he’s a monster, his leadership, his toughness, incredible.”
Bennett’s story has been told time and time again at this point—he walked onto the Georgia team and worked his way up to becoming the quarterback of the most talented team in the country for two straight seasons. This year, he became the fifth quarterback ever to lead his team to back-to-back National Championships.
In total, Bennett played six college seasons, and cemented himself as both tough and clutch thanks to his playoff runs.
Now that his college career is over, scouts believe the 25-year-old Bennett has a chance to stick in the NFL as a backup quarterback, even if he is already older than many starting quarterbacks.
