Patrick Mahomes Handed Chiefs Fan Lombardi Trophy, Wandered Away

Patrick Mahomes is coming off one of the best seasons of all time, winning the NFL MVP, a Super Bowl and the Super Bowl MVP all in one season. Therefore, he is making sure to celebrate, which peaked during the Chiefs parade on Wednesday, with several notable moments throughout the day.
However, that level of celebrating almost led to a huge mistake. Mahomes was taking pictures with fans at the parade while holding what appeared to be the Lombardi Trophy. Mahomes then walked away after handing the fan the trophy, showing just how oblivious he appeared to be at the time.
It was later revealed that the viral moment reportedly involved a Lombardi replica, but the shot of Mahomes handing away the coveted trophy still made for a hilarious scene.
This is just another area where Mahomes may have been emulating Tom Brady. Two years ago, at the Buccaneers’ parade following a Super Bowl win over the Chiefs, Brady threw the Lombardi Trophy across the bay, where it was caught by Cameron Brate. The risky toss led to a controversy as the daughter of the master silversmith who crafted the first Lombardi Trophy was not happy.
Now that the season and parade are both over, Mahomes can relax and let his ankle heal during the offseason. It may be good for him to lay low moving forward while the accusations of nearly losing the Lombardi Trophy slowly fade away.
