IMG Academy Announces New Stephen A. Smith Basketball Camp

No matter where you look in the sports media world, it’s hard to miss ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith. Perhaps the most recognizable opinion-giver on television is routinely seen on shows like First Take and NBA Countdown, and also has his own podcast. Now, he’s taking his talents to the world of coaching.

Smith has partnered with IMG Academy in Florida for a weeklong summer basketball camp. The event will be held in August at IMG’s campus in Bradenton, Fla.

“To have my own basketball camp associated with IMG Academy is an incredible opportunity for me to share my story and help inspire the next generation,” Smith wrote in a statement. “Providing advice on what it takes to succeed not only on the court, but also beyond the shot clock, is something I’m very passionate about. I’m honored that IMG Academy sees me as someone who can be an extension of its mission of empowering student-athletes to win in their future, preparing them for college and for life.”

Though Smith is best known these days for his fiery on-air persona and dancing on Cowboys’ fans graves, he does have some bonafide hoops credentials. He played college basketball at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, and has covered the NBA for decades.

Smith’s camp will run guests a cool $2,899 to attend, but the memories of working out on the court for the world’s foremost hot take artist are surely invaluable.
