Tony Parker Shares Photo of Young Victor Wembanyama in Spurs Jersey

Spurs fans quite literally won the lottery Tuesday night when they learned they’d get the top pick in June’s NBA draft—essentially locking up France’s Victor Wembanyama. And on Wednesday morning, former San Antonio champion and France native Tony Parker shared quite a throwback of the 19-year-old phenom.

“Yesss he’s going to the Spurs!!! So proud of you,” Parker said in a tweet.

Parker posted a picture of what appears to be a very young Wembanyama wearing Parker’s No. 9 Spurs jersey. His support of Parker and the Spurs comes as no surprise given his comments after it was announced San Antonio won the No. 1 pick.

“There’s a special relationship between France and the Spurs because of Tony, of course because of Boris [Diaw],” Wembanyama said Tuesday. “I know half of the country maybe, if not the whole country, wanted the Spurs to have the first pick.”

Diaw was a French forward who played for the Spurs for five seasons where he was a pivotal player in the team’s 2014 championship run. Parker, who had his jersey retired by San Antonio, spent 17 seasons with the Spurs and made six All-Star teams during his Hall of Fame career, which included four NBA titles.

Needless to say, Wembanyama is thrilled how the lottery played out and it’s all but certain that the Spurs will call his name on June 22.
