ESPN’s Stan Verrett Bids Farewell to Neil Everett After News of ’SportsCenter’ Anchor’s Departure

ESPN’s Stan Verrett shared a heartfelt farewell to longtime SportsCenter co-anchor Neil Everett on Twitter on Thursday following the news of Everett’s departure from the network after 23 years.

Verrett, who also arrived at ESPN in 2000, worked alongside Everett on the L.A.-based, late edition of the network’s flagship program since ’09. Over their 14-year run, the two went on to become fixtures on TVs, phones and laptops amongst diehard and casual sports fans around the country.

With Everett’s pending departure on the horizon, Verrett took to social media to congratulate and say goodbye to his friend and broadcast partner of more than a decade. 

“I started at espn in 2000, a few months after Neil Everett. We joined up for sportscenter from LA in 2009. For 14 years, he was the best teammate I could imagine. Selfless, caring, generous, and a pro’s pro. He’s moving on now, but we are brothers for life. That’ll never change,” wrote Verrett.

While ESPN has yet to comment on the news, Everett, 61, confirmed the end of his tenure with the company in a statement to Front Office Sports. His expected departure comes amid Disney’s recent cutbacks, which are set to reduce 7,000 jobs and $5.5 billion in costs for the company worldwide, according to FOS.

“ESPN changed my life, but now it is time for me to change my life,” Everett said. “Time to write a new chapter.”
