Chris Paul Learned About Trade to Wizards on Flight to New York
Chris Paul apparently found out he will soon no longer be a member of the Suns in unceremonious fashion.
While appearing Good Morning America to promote his new book, Sixty-One: Life Lessons From Papa, On and Off the Court, Paul found himself playing down the biggest current NBA storyline and how he learned about it.
During the Monday interview, co-host Michael Strahan said he was surprised to see that the Wizards and Suns were reportedly working on a blockbuster deal involving Paul and Bradley Beal, and he asked Paul what his thoughts were on the news. Paul’s response was pure comedy.
“I was surprised, too,” the 38-year-old Paul said with a laugh. “I found out on the plane yesterday flying here for this. You know, in this league, anything can happen, so you just figure out what’s next.”
In an interview published after his Good Morning America appearance, he told The New York Times that his 14-year old son, not his agent or the team, is the one who broke the news to him.
When Strahan’s co-hosts tried to push Paul for more reaction, Strahan said, “Don’t push him any further; he’s trying to be nice.” With the laughs still echoing, Paul asked, “What’s happening?”
After the initial trade news broke Sunday afternoon, it was later reported by Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes that Washington could be looking for a third team to serve as a destination for Paul, with the Clippers mentioned as a possible landing spot. Regardless, it doesn’t look as if Paul will suit up for the Wizards, so it remains to be seen where the 12-time All Star will play next season.
