Aaron Rodgers Touts Legalization of Psychedelics at Conference
Aaron Rodgers may be playing for a new team, but his love for psychedelic drugs remains the same. The Jets quarterback spent the week at a psychedelics conference in Denver, and he made an argument for the legalization of these kinds of drugs.
“Is it not ironic that the things that actually expand your mind are illegal and the things that … dumb you down have been legal for centuries?” Rodgers said at the conference, via ProFootballTalk. “We’ve got to change that. We’ve got to change that. It’s through awareness and education.”
Rodgers has used psychedelics in the offseason as a way to decompress following grueling NFL seasons, a practice for which he has been criticized by some fans and analysts. However, the quarterback is under the belief that anyone who jokes about it hasn’t actually tried psychedelics.
“I guarantee you all these bums who want to come after me online about my experience and stuff, they’ve never tried it,” he said. “They’re the perfect people for it. We need to get these people taking it.”
Many high-level athletes turn to various substances to help recover from such physical sports, and Rodgers is no different. Still, using psychedelics allows the quarterback to focus on his mental health along with his physical health.
Rodgers won the Super Bowl in 2010, and he has been searching for his second title ever since. The quarterback mentions that once he reached the mountaintop in the NFL, he needed another purpose in life.
“Success in life was holding the Lombardi Trophy,” he said. “Now I’ve done it. Now what? Now what’s the purpose of all this?”
Even if he is able to win a second championship, Rodgers has made it clear that he has found more to life than winning, and he credits this spiritual journey for it.
