Warriors’ Trayce Jackson-Davis on Second-Round Slide: ‘Y’all Will Regret It’

While former Villanova star Cam Whitmore’s unexpected fall in the first round of Thursday night’s NBA draft drew all the attention of fans and draft analysts, another talented prospect who lasted longer than many expected had perhaps the strongest take of the night.

Former Indiana standout Trayce Jackson-Davis was selected with the No. 57 pick by the Warriors. However, despite hearing his name called, Jackson-Davis was less than thrilled to be the second-to-last player to come off the board.

Fearing that he may go undrafted as the second round wore on, Jackson-Davis tweeted, “Y’all will regret it. I promise you,” seemingly aimed at all those teams who were passing on him.

After four college seasons with Hoosiers, Jackson-Davis finished as the school’s all-time leader in both rebounds and blocks, as well as third in scoring—behind only Calbert Cheaney and Steve Alford.

In an interview with the Indianapolis Star late Thursday night, Jackson-Davis appears determined to perform at an elite level. 

“I play with a chip on my shoulder and that’s what I’ve always done,” Jackson-Davis said. “I don’t think of this situation as anything different. And so I’m gonna put a chip on my shoulder. I’m going to play to the best of my ability and I think my athleticism and my IQ on the basketball court is going to make me a valuable piece.”
