Wimbledon Media Member Was Convinced Paula Badosa Won Match When She Did Not

This was awkward.

Paula Badosa had a tough day at Wimbledon on Friday, as she had to retire from her second round match vs. Marta Kostyuk due to injury, losing the match 3–6, 0–1. The day was made even more difficult during her post-match press conference.

As Badosa was answering questions, one reporter thought she actually won the match, leading to a strange interaction between the two. The reporter asked about her “fitness and confidence level,” when Badosa was clearly down on herself.

“For your information I just lost, I didn’t win,” Badosa said.

While the reporter was corrected a few times, he still asked the same question to Badosa, and to the tennis player’s credit, she still answered the question.

“Well, I’m not feeling at my best form, I just retired,” she said. “So yeah, I wish I could feel better.”

Badosa entered Wimbledon ranked No. 35 in the world, but missed the first two major tournaments of the year due to injuries.

Not only did she retire from the women’s singles tournament, but she and her boyfriend, Stefanos Tsitsipas, had to withdraw from the mixed doubles bracket as well. Tsitsipas, meanwhile, remains in the men’s singles bracket after a big win over Andy Murray on Friday.
