Carlos Alcaraz nearly damaged his Wimbledon trophy just a day after he won the title by defeating Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-set final.

The 20-year-old spoke with news outlets from around the world following his monumental win, and his appearance on CNN nearly ended poorly.

The CNN This Morning hosts wanted to get a closer look at the Wimbledon trophy toward the end of their interview with Alcaraz. However, when the Spaniard went to pick up the trophy, the top fell off, and he almost dropped the entire trophy on the ground.

Thankfully, the trophy appeared undamaged as Alcaraz laughed off the mishap. What a close call.

Alcaraz was the first men’s tennis player other than Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Djokovic to win the Wimbledon men’s singles title since 2003.

Alcaraz remains ranked No. 1 in the world after the win, and he will enter the U.S. Open, which begins Aug. 28, as the reigning champion.
