Urban Meyer Says He Got ‘Chills’ Watching New Florida Documentary
On the heels of its Johnny Manziel-centric episode, Netflix has released a new entry in its Untold documentary series titled Swamp Kings, chronicling the Florida football program under Urban Meyer during the 2000s.
On Tuesday, Meyer offered his initial thoughts on the doc after getting a chance to watch it himself.
“I watched that this morning, the first series and got chills just thinking about those great players,” Meyer said on Urban’s Take with Tim May.
Meyer coached the Gators from 2005 to ’10, arriving after a tumultuous three-year run for the program under Ron Zook. He quickly got Florida back on track, winning national titles in ’06 and ’08 with eventual Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow and a slew of future NFL stars.
While heavy on nostalgia for a bygone era of college football, the show also provides an inside and retrospective look at a program that experienced immense on-field success despite a litany of off-field issues, including several player arrests and what some have described as a toxic team culture. Meyer eventually retired from coaching following the 2010 season to focus on his family and health, but returned to coach Ohio State in ’12.
