Gus Johnson Called Out Nebraska QB and Was Proven Right on the Next Play

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims had a rough first half vs. Colorado, as he lost two fumbles and threw an interception in two quarters alone. Those three turnovers directly led to 10 Colorado points as the Buffaloes took a 13–0 lead into halftime.

As Sims’s struggles unfolded, even the announcers recognized how bad it was getting. Right before Sims threw the interception, Fox Sports play-by-play man Gus Johnson pleaded with Nebraska to bench Sims for the quarterback’s sake.

“I don’t know, Matt Rhule might have to find someone else to play quarterback for him, because Sims is costing his team games,” Johnson said.

The turnovers aren’t new to Sims, as the quarterback threw three interceptions against Minnesota to open the season last week. With Sims continuing to struggle to start this week’s game, college football fans roasted the quarterback on social media.

Sims is a fourth-year quarterback who transferred to Nebraska after three years with Georgia Tech. Between 25 games with the Yellow Jackets and parts of two games with the Cornhuskers, Sims is now responsible for 37 turnovers.
