How to Build a Winning DFS Lineup for Super Bowl LVII
It’s Super Bowl week! That means countless bets and wagers, player props and of course, DFS lineups, will be submitted for the biggest game on the planet. To give you some help in setting those DFS lineups, here’s a look at a lineup I’ve built for this super clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
The majority of Showdown lineups will feature Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce in the captain’s seat, so there is some value in a contrarian play like Miles Sanders, Isiah Pacheco or DeVonta Smith. However, I’m going chalk here. Also keep in mind that recent Super Bowl winning lineups have included “lesser” fantasy options the likes of Brycen Hopkins, Kendrick Bourne and Kyle Juszczyk.
Captain: Jalen Hurts, QB, Eagles ($16,800): Hurts has averaged nearly 26 DFS points per game this season, and you have to love the matchup against the Chiefs. Their defense has allowed 33 touchdown passes in the regular and postseason, which is tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the most in the league. K.C. has also surrendered the seventh-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks.
FLEX: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs ($11,000): Mahomes is playing at less than 100% and the matchup against the Eagles is awful on paper. However, this is Mahomes. He’s scored 18-plus points in all but four of his 19 games, including five with more than 30 points. Philadelphia’s defense isn’t impenetrable, as Dak Prescott, Justin Fields, Davis Webb and Daniel Jones beat them for 19-plus points.
FLEX: Travis Kelce, TE, Chiefs ($10,600): The Chiefs will be looking to get the ball to Kelce often (obviously), so you can expect at least seven targets. He’s been over that total in all but one game this season, and he’s averaged 9.3 targets in his 19 games in 2022. The Eagles haven’t allowed a tight end to score more than 14.9 fantasy points against them this season, but Kelce isn’t a mortal tight end.
FLEX: A.J. Brown, WR, Eagles ($9,200): Admittedly, Brown’s numbers have not been great in the postseason. In fact, we could see more of DeVonta Smith in DFS at $8,600. Regardless, the Chiefs defense has been soft against wideouts overall, allowing the fifth-most points per game in the regular and postseason combined. K.C. also has allowed 13 touchdowns to receivers lined out wide in 19 contests.
FLEX: Justin Watson, WR, Chiefs ($2,000): The Chiefs are dealing with a few injuries at wide receiver, as JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kadarius Toney and Mecole Hardman (I-R) are all banged up. If K.C. is down one of this duo, it could mean more chances for Watson. It’s obviously a risk, so keep tabs on the injuries.
FLEX: Marcus Kemp, WR, Chiefs ($200): We need a cheap player to build a lineup with Hurts, Mahomes, Kelce and Brown, and Kemp fits the bill. He played 32% of the offensive snaps against the Bengals in the AFC championship game, and he could see a similar role if Toney is inactive once again. Hardman is on I-R.
