Start ’Em, Sit ’Em Tight Ends Fantasy Football Week 6: Logan Thomas Emerges As a Consistent Threat

He’s not Travis Kelce, but new Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is making use of his tight end.

Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em is the ultimate look at the best and worst matchups based on a PPR scoring system in fantasy football. This column will not cover the elite players in the NFL like Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey or Justin Jefferson. Instead, I'll look at the players you have questions about who could exceed or fail to meet expectations at each position. For all of your final fantasy lineup decisions, be sure to check out my weekly player rankings which will be updated daily throughout the 2023 NFL season.

Week 6 Start ’Em: Tight Ends

Start of the Week

Washington Football Team Logan Thomas

Logan Thomas at Falcons (1 p.m. ET, CBS): I might be chasing the points here, but Thomas has scored 10-plus points in two of his last three games including 20.7 last week. A hot add off the waiver wire, he has a great matchup this week against the Falcons. Their defense has allowed four tight ends to score 12-plus points, including 22.4 points from Sam LaPorta. Thomas is a nice, low-end starter.

Start ’Em

Zach Ertz at Rams (4:25 p.m. ET, Fox): Ertz continued to produce for fantasy fans last week, scoring a touchdown and nine points against the Bengals. He’ll remain a viable option this week against the Rams, who were just smoked for a touchdown and more than 20 points by Ertz’s former teammate, Dallas Goedert. In all, the Rams have surrendered the fifth-most points to opposing tight ends.

Cole Kmet vs. Vikings (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Kmet has been on fire in recent weeks, scoring a combined 42.8 fantasy points in his last two games. I’d ride him while he’s hot at what is a thin position against the Vikings, who have allowed eight-plus points to Kmet four times in six career meetings. While the current matchup isn’t great on paper, Kmet is a tough player to sit in what could be a shootout.

Tyler Conklin at Eagles (4:25 p.m. ET, Fox): Conklin is a worthwhile option for fantasy managers looking to stream a tight end this week, as he’s scored nine-plus points in three of his last four games. In that time, he’s seen at least five targets in each contest. Next up is a date with the Eagles, who have allowed three scores and an average of more than 13 fantasy points per game to tight ends.

Week 6 Sit ’Em: Tight Ends

Sit of the Week

Dalton Schultz vs. Saints (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Schultz has been on fire in the last two weeks, scoring a combined 32.7 fantasy points. That makes it tough to sit him down, but I would temper expectations when he faces the Saints. Their defense hasn’t allowed a tight end to score more than 10.9 points in a game this season, and overall New Orleans has allowed the fewest points to tight ends.

Sit ’Em

Kyle Pitts runs with his helmet on

Kyle Pitts vs. Commanders (1 p.m. ET, CBS): Pitts is coming off his best stat line of the season, scoring 15.7 points in a win over the Texans. That could push some managers to start him this week, but I would temper expectations in a matchup vs. Washington. Their defense has allowed more than 8.1 points to one tight end, and have held Goedert, Zach Ertz and Dalton Kincaid to single fantasy digits.

David Njoku vs. 49ers (1 p.m. ET, Fox): Njoku has been a disappointment in the stat sheets, scoring fewer than seven fantasy points in three of his first four games. He has also seen four or fewer targets in three of those contests. What’s more, he has a bad matchup against the Niners, as their defense has allowed just one touchdown and the eighth-fewest fantasy points to tight ends this season.

Chigoziem Okonkwo vs. Ravens (London, 9:30 a.m. ET, NFL Network): The Titans incorporated Okonkwo into the offense more often last week, as he was targeted nine times and caught five passes against the Colts. Still, he’s averaging a mere 5.1 fantasy points in a Titans pass attack that lacks firepower. Baltimore has also allowed zero touchdowns and the second-fewest points to tight ends.
