After a strong finish in 2019, Athletics’ first basemen Matt Olson is coming off fantasy baseball draft boards as the No. 6 first baseman according to the latest Average Draft Position data. Last year, Olson had the ninth highest hard-hit rate (50.3) in baseball with a high fly-ball rate (44.6) and HR/FB rate (23.7). According to Sports Illustrated’s fantasy baseball analyst Shawn Childs, Olson offers tremendous value at his current ADP. Childs and John Hickey of InsideTheAthletics discussed the Oakland first baseman in the above video and evaluated what Olson can offer in the 2020 fantasy baseball season.

Corey Parson: Hey, what's up, it's Corey Parson the fancy executive here with SI.com. Major League Baseball season could be returning shortly. That means fantasy baseball owners can rejoice. Joining me to talk some Oakland A's is A's insider John Hickey and SI fantasy and gaming analyst Shawn Childs. John let me start with you. What do you think about Matt Olson this year?

John Hickey: I love Matt Olson. This is a guy who, when he's healthy, plays every day, he's got great power. You never have to take him out of the lineup for defense because he's a two time Gold Glove winner. He's in the middle of a lineup that scores a lot of runs. He had thirty six home runs last year after only missing the first five plus weeks of the season. So this is a guy that should be on everybody's fantasy team.

Corey Parson: Bold statement right there, John. Shawn what do you think about it?

Shawn Childs: Olson is getting drafted as the fourth first baseman in the high stakes market with ADP of 55 in drafts after March 1st. You know, his average hit rate is well over two, which suggests that he could hit well over forty five home runs. He's going to drive in runs. The only question with him is, his strikeout rate is a little high at this point of his career, which kind of restricts his batting average. So he's probably more of a neutral hitter with a slight negative, you know, which neutrals around .270. And the other question with him is that in the past, he hasn't scored a ton of runs to kind of compete with the top first baseman. So he's going to be competitive, he's going to give you two categories that are going to be edge, doesn't really steal any bases. So he's drafted a little high for me. But I think he's a really talented player and I've owned him in the past. And I like what he's done for me, but I've always got him at a later price point.
