John Smoltz Aims to Play on PGA Tour Champions Circuit

John Smoltz is a Hall of Fame pitcher, but it appears at age 55, he has a new dream of dominating a different sport. In an interview with TMZ, the eight-time All-Star expressed his interest in playing golf professionally after he undergoes hip surgery.
“I’ve got a new hip. I’ve got one more hip to do, and after that I want to see what my competitive juices take me to,” Smoltz told TMZ. “I’ll be 56 this year. So time’s running out a little bit on the competitive side, but golf is definitely something I’m passionate about.”
Smoltz then was asked if he would want to compete on the senior golf circuit and referenced his previous attempt on that front, when he tried to play hurt on PGA Tour Champions.
“I tried to play hurt, and I tried to do it a little too long,” Smoltz added. “If my other hip gets done, and I can rehab it and get back to where I think I’ve learned in the game of golf of how to navigate that, I want to try and qualify for things again.”
In 2022, Tiger Woods said Smoltz and former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo were the best golfers he has played with among athletes from different sports.
