Jon Rahm’s Close Friend J.J. Watt Weighs In on Rumors of $600 Million LIV Offer

Unconfirmed reports that Jon Rahm is in talks with LIV Golf are running rampant on social media, despite the 2023 Masters champion’s previous statement of disinterest in the Saudi-funded league and its format. While Rahm and his camp haven’t addressed the recent surge of rumors, his close friend J.J. Watt is weighing in.

The former NFL great took to X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday to comment on the Rahm’s rumored $600 million offer from LIV Golf, in addition to addressing it live on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show

“If this number was correct, I would have driven to Jon’s house myself and used extreme physical force to ensure he signed the deal ...” Watt wrote.

Watt, who like Rahm resides in Scottsdale, Ariz., reiterated his stance on the rumored offer on Pat McAfee’s talk show later on Wednesday.

“I tweeted that I would have been the first one at his front door, physically forcing him to sign it if it were for $600 million,” Watt said. “Anyone who says they wouldn’t do that … if you wouldn’t take $600 million. I don’t know about that.”

Watt played with Rahm in last season’s WM Phoenix Open Pro-Am and recently dined with him for his birthday.

Watt might be open-minded when it comes to LIV Golf, but Rahm has repeatedly denied his interest in the league. In August, the Spaniard joined the podcast Golf Sin Etiquetas and disputed that he is talking to LIV, despite being friends with LIV tour members. Rahm has been particularly opposed to LIV’s 54-hole team format.

“I laugh when people rumor me with LIV Golf,” Rahm said at the time. “I never liked the format. And I always have a good time with Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia in the practice rounds of majors. Phil respects my decision, and I respect his [choice]. Mickelson has told me that I have no reason to go play for LIV, and he has told me that multiple times.”
