There’s a reason why the Americans brought Justin Thomas to Rome, and the two-time major champion put it on full display when he shushed the European crowd with a clutch putt on Friday afternoon.

On Marco Simone’s 15th hole, Thomas—paired with Jordan Spieth in the first best ball match of the afternoon against Viktor Hovland and Tyrrell Hatton—momentarily backed off his par putt to halve the hole with the Europeans. And naturally, the crowd took advantage of the lull in Thomas’s routine: Jeers and whistles echoed from the crowd as the Kentucky native readjusted his line and stepped back into the putt.

What happened next was perhaps the most electrifying moment of the competition thus far. Thomas sunk the eight-foot putt with total confidence and immediately turned around to the European spectators, giving them a long, silent stare.

Thomas subsequently launched into one of his signature fiery fist pumps and stormed off to the 16th hole alongside Spieth.

American fans couldn’t get enough of Thomas’s spicy celebration, as evidenced by the influx of social media reactions.
