Max Homa Proposed a Hilarious Idea for New World Golf Ranking System

Max Homa is accustomed to weighing in on hot topics in the golf world, especially on his preferred social media platform: Twitter. The six-time PGA Tour winner often gives lighthearted takes on whatever the golf community’s current fixation might be, and he did exactly that on Wednesday when he fired off a hilarious post about the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).
The OWGR has been a relevant topic of discussion in the realm of men’s professional golf since the emergence of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour. The ranking does not award points to LIV tournaments—because the team-format league does not meet the OWGR’s criteria—and therefore, its players are dropping in the standings. If LIV isn’t awarded world ranking points, eventually its players will plummet so far down that list that they won’t be invited to major championships unless they’re otherwise exempt.

On Wednesday, speaking from LIV’s Singapore event, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau called out the OWGR for its lack of inclusivity. They believe a new system is needed to dictate which players deserve spots in the four major championship fields.
Homa, seemingly addressing that point in particular, proposed a ranking system idea in his typical tongue-in-cheek manner.
If the OWGR is abolished I’m very down to move strictly to the eye test. The majors could do legit drafts of the top “x” players they think are worthy of exemption for their events. Would be epic and a content bonanza #golf

With the NFL draft taking place this week, Homa’s tweet was both timely and clever. The system might have been a mid-day musing, but Homa is absolutely right that a draft-style exemption process into the majors would be content gold.
