USGA Gives Adam Hadwin Clever Welcome Gift Following Security Takedown in Canada

Adam Hadwin was the victim of what might be the funniest golf mix-up of the year on Sunday. During the moments following Nick Taylor’s momentous Canadian Open win, a security guard mistook Hadwin for an overzealous fan as he began to spray champagne on his friend and promptly tackled him to the ground.
The all-time moment was captured on camera from all angles, and the golf community was not only extremely entertained by the mishap, but concerned if Hadwin recovered from the blow. Hadwin’s wife, Jessica, later confirmed that the PGA Tour player was uninjured, and revealed that he even apologized to the security guard in true Canadian fashion.
When Hadwin arrived at the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club this week, he was greeted by a surprise from the USGA—the organization that runs the major championship—which further demonstrated the viral scale of the incident.
The USGA left Hadwin a note in his locker that read: “Glad you’re feeling better and made the trip. Your safety and security are our utmost priority. We’re here to support you and ensure your well-being.” The note was signed by Jenny Pritchard and Robbie Zalzneck, two members of the USGA staff.
Ready for a great week @usopengolf. Thanks to the @USGA for keeping me safe! pic.twitter.com/qbUbOkvWvK

In the video Hadwin posted to his Twitter account, he pans over the personalized card and then zooms out to reveal the clever gift: A safety vest and two hard-hat helmets for maximum protection at this week’s tournament.
Kudos to the USGA for the creativity, and for encouraging Hadwin to practice some self-defense rather than promising that U.S. Open security will know what he looks like.
