Belle Hill scores upset win in Autumn Miss at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Belle Hill won the $100,000 Autumn Miss Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by a half-length Saturday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Leslie Mawing, Belle Hill ran a mile on the turf in 1:35.10 and paid $21.20, $8.60 and $6.80 at 9-1 odds. She was making her debut on the surface.

Paula's Love returned $5.60 and $3.80, while Singing Kitty was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $2.80 to show.

Belle Hill was third going into the far turn and overhauled Paulina's Love with a sixteenth of a mile to go to win.

''She got a great trip and a perfect ride,'' said winning trainer Larry Ross, who is brought his filly in from Golden Gate Fields in Northern California.

The victory, worth $60,000, increased Belle Hill's career earnings to $173,220, with five wins in seven starts.
