Giants pitcher Matt Cain, who was ruled out in early August after undergoing elbow surgery, had surgery on his right ankle on Saturday to remove a bone spur, according to the Giants' Twitter account.

Giants pitcher Matt Cain, who was ruled out for the season in early August after undergoing elbow surgery, had surgery on his right ankle on Saturday to remove a bone spur, according to the Giants' Twitter account. 

The recovery time is expected to be two months. 

The three-time All-Star, who has spent his entire 10-year career with the Giants, is owed $20 million annually through 2017 with a club option for the following season. He's having one of the worst seasons of his career, going 2-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 90 1/3 innings over 15 starts.
