Kansas City Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie apologized for the shirt he wore in the press conference following the Royals' win over the Baltimore Orioles in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.
Guthrie wore a custom-made shirt that said "These O's Ain’t Royal."
"My intention was not to anger O's fans or friends w/my shirt 2night. I apologize to those offended. Did not consider this reaction. Go Royals," Guthrie said on Twitter after the game.
Guthrie got the start in Game 3 and pitched five innings, allowing three hits and one earned run in the 2-1 victory, getting the no-decision. The Royals are up 3-0 in the best-of-seven series. Game 4 is Wednesday.
Royals designated hitter Billy Butler drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, scoring Jarrod Dyson.
Kansas City will try to clinch its first pennant in almost 30 years on Wednesday. Jason Vargas will take the mound for the Royals, and Miguel Gonzalez will start for Baltimore.
