Cubs manager Joe Maddon is looking to exact revenge on the St. Louis Cardinals after first baseman Anthony Rizzo was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning of the Chicago's 8-3 victory on Friday.

“To become this vigilante group that wants to get their own pound of flesh, that's absolutely insane, ridiculous and wrong. We don't start stuff, but we will stop stuff,” Maddon said in his postgame press conference.

The Cubs allege that Cardinals reliever Matt Belisle intentionally hit Rizzo in the leg with a pitch in retaliation following the drilling of Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday in the fifth inning. Rizzo was also hit by a pitch in the fourth inning of the game. Belisle and Cardinals manager Mike Matheny were ejected from the game.

“I don't know who put out the hit,” Maddon added. “I don't know if Tony Soprano is in the dugout. I didn't see him in there. We're not going to put up with that from them or anyone else.”

Rizzo leads the major leagues after being hit by a pitch 29 times on the year.
