Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta helped his own cause with an impressive home run in Monday night’s game against the Reds.

Arrieta hit a solo shot off a 99-mph fastball from Michael Lorenzen in the fifth inning, his second homer of the season. The ball left the bat at 103 mph and traveled 381 feet, according to MLB’s batted ball data.

Earlier this month, Arrieta told reporters that he wants to participate in this year’s Home Run Derby. He now has four home runs in his career, all in the last two seasons.

Unfortunately for Arrieta, he allowed a home run to Joey Votto in the bottom of the inning, the fourth homer he’s given up this year.
