He purchased the team in 2011 for $680 million from Drayton McLane.
In 2008, Crane founded a logistics company in Houston, and he is the chairman and chief executive of Crane Capital, a private equity fund company.
Crane had previously attempted to buy the Cubs and Rangers before getting the Astros on his second attempt trying to buy the team.
At the time Crane purchased the team, it was the second-highest price an MLB team was sold for, trailing only the $845 million the Chicago Cubs were sold for in 2009.
