Justin Turner’s Wife Says Red Sox Veteran Got 16 Stitches After Gruesome Injury

Justin Turner went down with a gruesome injury on Monday during the Red Sox‘s spring training clash against the Tigers. The 38-year-old was hit square in the face by a pitch from Detroit’s Matt Manning in the first inning, causing blood to gush from the veteran infielder’s face as he went to the ground in pain.

After exiting the game and being escorted via ambulance to the hospital, Turner’s wife, Kourtney, provided an update on his status via Twitter.

While thanking fans for their well-wishes amid the injury scare, Kourtney revealed that Turner is back at home resting after getting treated with 16 stitches. She indicated that he avoided any fractures and that the scans done came back clean.

The Red Sox provided an update of their own on Turner, in which they revealed he was receiving treatment for “soft tissue injuries” and was being evaluated for a concussion.

After spending the previous nine seasons in Los Angeles manning the hot corner for the Dodgers, Turner agreed to a two-year, $21.7 million deal with the Red Sox this offseason.

Despite having 14 MLB seasons and this being a spring training game, Turner’s wife indicated the infielder was listening to replay of the game while resting up back at home. Luckily, despite the injury scare, Turner appears to have avoided a major injury and is now back at home recuperating with his loved ones.
